Does Eating Junk Food Make Kids Dumber

315229519_15a24064b6[1]At times when I’ve been reading about foods and how they affect your body and mind. I remember reading once about somebody who switched from, eating meat etc and switching to a vegetarian diet and then went on to raw food. And said that the difference between the way he felt before switching to the various diets said he felt so much better. The main improvement he noticed were increased levels of energy and much clearer thinking.

Just recently through studies researchers have found there is a connection between what we eat and how we perform, when doing mental tasks. This particular research was done using children, so adults probably aren’t exempt from what certain foods can do to your mind.

It would seem there is a direct relationship between eating fatty and high sugar foods, which can affect children’s mental performance. During the study 5,500 children who were aged 11 years old were asked how much junk food they ate a week.

Over half of them had eaten some kind of fast-food three times in the week beforehand. Over 10 percent said that they had eaten junk food between four and six times in a week. And a further two percent said they had eaten junk food over four times a day.

They were given during the study some literacy and numeracy tasks which were tests, to see how well they performed. The pupils who consumed junk food four and six times a week had a score of 6.96 which was below average in reading.

The children that ate junk food daily went down a whopping 16.07 points, and the ones who had it three times over a day went down to 19.34 points those were for literacy tests.

For the new new numeracy tests the results were as following, the children eating four and six times a week of junk food their scores were 6.55 points, then those that ate it daily their scores were 14.82 points, and those who consumed it three times a day they scored 18.48 points.

Someone called Tam Fry has been quoted as saying, who is part of Britain’s National Obesity Forum if you give your children better food their concentration, learning and over all behavior improves a lot. Could be this one of the reasons why there are so many children these days, that are not doing so well academically and get bored and cause other problems in their lives.

This is most certainly a very interesting piece of research, as far as eating is concerned and how it affects your mind. Perhaps we as adults should take something away from this, because even though work isn’t so much like school, if you are doing a mentally challenging job and stuffing your face with junk food every day you probably aren’t going to get very far.

When I apply for a Mensa test next, I’ll make sure I eat plenty of pizza, McDonald’s and anything else I can get my hands on so I am guaranteed to fail. Game of Scrabble anyone ?

Is Fast-Food as Bad as Booze

beerBecause there is a proliferation of foods that are bad for us everywhere the main ones being that contain a lot of fat and sugar, not only do these foods make us put on weight they can also cause other damage as well it is now possible. To cause harm to your liver even if you don’t drink a lot because we eat a lot of fat and sugary foods, and a lot of us eat far more than we should per daily allowance of fat.

Then it is not surprising that some people are showing the early stages of fatty liver if you are overweight and have been eating a fatty diet for quite some time, then there is every possibility that your liver may have suffered some damage.

In a recent study that has come to light some people were told to eat fast-food twice a day for a month, and only after a week their livers were showing damage even in this short space of time. The report was based on a study which involved 34 Swedish people, and the effects that eating a diet which was high in saturated fat and what effect it had on their livers, and exercise was kept to a bare minimum.

After a month they had blood tests which measures liver enzyme levels to see if what damage may have been done it was found that there was they increase, in blood liver enzymes probably higher than what they would be normally.

This evidence does prove the point that eating a diet that is high in saturated fats will do you no good in the long-term, in the study there were 12 healthy man and six healthy women.

And these were put together with a similar match of people in the same age group and same ages, so one group of 18 people was asked to eat two fast-food meals per day and to do very little exercise, it was suggested that they do no more than 5000 steps per day.

During the study their weight was taken, there abdomen were measured and they also had liver blood test function tests done, in order to compare results later on when the study had finished. After the four-week month period was over results were analyzed to see what difference there were, the group who had ate the fast-food, there weight went from 67 kilograms to 74 kilograms.

And there liver blood test results which came back showed a very significant increase in something calledALT which is normally associated with people who have liver disease brought on by excessive alcohol consumption.

There have been other claims to back up this theory as well if you haven’t seen Morgan Spurlock’s documentary about eating fast-food for a similar period of time, they actually measured his blood liver enzymes, it wasn’t to long before his liver started to show elevated levels associated with liver disease or hepatitis as this otherwise known as.

If you are eating a high-fat diet then it is never too late to change your lifestyle your liver is one of the most important organs within your body it does a awful lot of important functions some I dare say that you probably don’t even think about.

It really does pay to look after it because it is a important part of the digestive process livers don’t like to be overwhelmed with high toxins like sugar and fat and whatever may else be in today’s manufactured mutant frankenstein food.

There are quite a lot of foods that you can eat which are good for your liver here are just a few and I dare say this list is not exhaustive by any means.

onions
dandelion Tea
garlic
high Fibre Bread
Lots of water to flush toxins out
broccoli
brussel sprouts
cabbage
cauliflower
beans
peas
sweetcorn
whole meal pitta bread
tomatoes
sweet potatoes
kale
turnips
hot water with some some fresh lemon juice
apples
pears

look after your liver you only get one and it works better on a healthier diet.

Even though this is quite not high in fat as it could be the key thing to remember here is just look at the amount of calories that is in one of these. And depending on the actual serving of the product if it is a hundred grams, then 8 g of saturated fat is quite a lot.

Number two: And fighting for the number two position is McDonalds Big Mac, this has 560 Big Mac calories,10 grams of saturated fat which is an awful lot, eat two of these and you’re eating over a thousand calories, and 20 grams of saturated fat, wow what a lot. Cholesterol wise this contains 80 milligrams, which is slightly higher than Burger King’s. And contains 25 grams of protein. This is quite a heavyweight contender as you can see.

So if you decide to have a full pizza and you are sharing it, this could mount up.The calorie count is 360 which is quite a lot for one slice, cholesterol at 40 milligrams, 43 grams of carbohydrate, and 18 grams of protein.

Original Recipe Fried Chicken @ KFCNumber five: Kentucky Fried Chicken, chicken breast based on one serving calories of 360, total fat 21 grams, saturated fat of which is five grams, cholesterol which adds to 115 milligrams, carbohydrates of which is seven grams, protein is 37 grams.

Double Fillet-O-Fish burgerNumber ten: McDonald’s fillet of fish, calories are 380 saturated fat 4 grams, cholesterol 35 milligrams, carbohydrate 38 grams and protein 15 grams.

Summary: the whole point of compiling this list is so that you can get an idea of how things can mount up, over time if you are familiar with the movie supersize me, then he will probably more than know what eating this food regularly can do to yourself.

And really let’s face it we often eat food without even thinking about it, most the time it’s just based on how the food tastes to us, and how it makes us feel.

It doesn’t mean to say that you can’t eat these foods in moderation, there is nothing wrong with that whatsoever but if you consume them on a regular basis, then really you are going to get problems with your health. As far as weight gain is concerned.

Conclusion: The thing to do with this, is make yourself aware of what you are eating and if you are eating quite a lot of food that is on the list, then perhaps you need to make some adjustments to your eating habits.

I wouldn’t say diet because, I hate that word it more or less implies, that you are on a regime when you’re not. Healthy eating is for life not just for three months or a six-month honenymoon diet period. Remember that and you can’t go far wrong as far as losing weight is concerned.

Another thing why you are reading, this list is take note of the actual calories that are in these foods. This is the most important factor it’s the calories that make the difference it’s how many that you’re eating even though fat has a lot of calories per gram nine to be exact, it’s the amount of calories you’re eating that makes you gain weight.
