bad-300-250This is my post for Blog Action Day 2009, this is a global thing that bloggers do all over the world in order to make people more aware of climate change and other such matters.

So here are some things that you can do to help preserve the environment, and change your health habits at the same time. Food processing and transportation can be responsible for many CO2 emissions but we do need to eat obviously.

Two Years From Today Happy Birthday

It’s two years today since I moved this blog over to this domain and the WordPress platform, and what a fantastic year fact it has been. Traffic levels during the first quarter of this year, and the second quarter have been very consistent throughout. I have been getting more enquiries through my contact form, for various things such as link exchanges, people wanting to submit content and a few people have expressed. A interest in advertising.

Which means that more people are now finding the blog, through which ever means its syndicated on more sites now than it has ever been. And this will be the case hopefully as time goes on. All of this in the long run, will build higher levels of traffic. It is really satisfying to see something that you have gradually grown, over a period of time.

Not only that as well, it’s also made me realise how passionate I am, about getting the message out of the benefits of eating healthily and general overall well-being. So from what I can see if things are just going to, keep on the up as far as traffic levels are concerned and the people subscribing to the RSS feed.

I would like to say hello to the new subscribers, who have the updates delivered in their inbox and hope you are enjoying the posts. I can always remember when I first thought about, moving over to WordPress what it would actually be like. And how long it would be before the novelty wore off and I would get bored.

Well I am still here and enjoy every minute of it even the littlest thing sometimes, can be a big thrill like seeing some traffic coming from somewhere else. Or someone leaving a comment that hasn’t done so before, I think I have found my true calling in life. And this is definitely it is so all that remains to do now is, just keep on trucking along.

And thanks to everybody, who has joined me just recently and I hope you are enjoying the ride.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I Have a Dream

2210281476_b74fac1cb3[1]Writing this blog has become one of the best things, that I have ever done in a long time it has made me realise how passionate I am about. Health and fitness and other associated matters, the reason for the title of this post is I have a dream is it reminds me of Martin Luther King’s speech all those years ago about how he wanted to change things.

And I am at the stage now where I want to do the same with my blog. Some of the things I am going to be doing are writing a press release for distribution, having a new theme designed, the main reason for this is in order for people to be able to see my content more on the front page rather than as it is now.

But one of the reasons for writing this post is I want to be able to get more interaction going with people, in the form of comments which seems to be at present on a bit of a go slow, as regards things such as traffic levels things aren’t too bad.

The ultimate dream I have for my blog is to have my content go viral where ever is possible, and be on as many sites as is possible. So what I would like to ask of my readers now, is if you have any friends or relatives, in your e-mail contacts list.

That you could send my site address to or even a link to feed burner where they can sign up for e-mail updates, my ultimate goal for this blog is to make it as well known and is big as is possible, things are certainly moving in the right direction there is no doubt about that, but every little thing that people can do all helps. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Thanks to everybody who has got the word out for me you know who you are.

The Past Year in Review 2008

2008Being as it’s coming up to Christmas I thought I would do this last post for this year, and take a early break from blogging just for a while I have been blogging consistently throughout this year, although there have been some gaps I have managed to put content out most weeks apart from the odd few.

So this post is about some of the highlights from this year and even though it seems to have gone rather quickly, there has been some really good ones for me at least anyway. It was a relatively quiet start in January and traffic levels were not quite where I wanted them to be.

So after feeling under the weather for quite some time, I decided that enough was enough and at the beginning of February started to look at, my blogging mastermind lessons and also ramped up the amount of content creation I was doing.

I think it was about March time, that some of my posts started appearing on Reuters, which came as a nice surprise all of a sudden seeing traffic coming from sites like USA Today Reuters and many others. Was totally mind blowing to me in fact when I first saw my first post on Reuters I couldn’t believe my eyes.

That to me was the ultimate highlight of the year, apart from getting links from some authoritative blog’s like Pro Blogger, I ended up submitting my site to fitness to alltop, and they welcomed me with open arms this which was very gratifying to say the least.

Someone called Larisa contacted me from Wellsphere, said how much she liked my blog, and would I like it to be syndicated on their website naturally I agreed to this and as time has gone on I do get traffic from Wellsphere now this which was another well added addition to getting my blog noticed more. This year has been extremely good for growth as far as traffic is concerned even though my RSS subscribers have gone up and down somewhat I do hope one day that I will have over a hundred or more.

Also traffic levels have continued to rise throughout the year, there have been some occasional dips but I expect that anyway it is quite normal, it is something that I have learned to just except, if traffic levels dip sometimes after a while they do come back. I can’t wait one day to look at my stats and see 500 –1000 visitors per day to me that would be the ultimate thing.

But for now I am really happy with where I am, with my blog as it stands. You have to compare where you were from the beginning or where you were earlier on this year, November has been one of the best months I have had as far as visitors are concerned according to my web stats program awstats.

I have received some nice comments from people, about how much they enjoy reading my blog which is very gratifying also, there have been other ones which have been little bit critical in nature but nothing too bad, that is just one of the things about blogging it’s a open forum and you have to develop a bit of a thick skin as regards the comments side of it is concerned.

And I would just like to give a shout out to Pete Cohen who has been plugging me where ever he can thanks Pete, also I have an a lot of links coming in from forums where people have linked to a post of mine which has been a nice surprise at times, I can honestly say that even though at times you do to tend to think is it worth it I would say definitely yes it’s hard work no doubt about it but seeing something gradually grow over time is a very satisfying experience.

I would wholeheartedly say to anybody who is thinking about starting a blog be prepared for a long haul but if you put the work in you will reap the benefits. And the only way that you will get noticed is by writing decent content which people will want to read over and over again.

At times it seems like my posts pop up all over the place and this is the sort of natural growth that Google loves, and surely enough I do get plenty of traffic from Google but at times it seems to come all over the place.

I dare say that sometimes even site meter doesn’t always pick up all the visitors the I get so I could be getting referrals from lots of other places also, there is only one way to summarise this year really that’s to say it’s been absolutely fantastic. And I think next year will be even better here is a nonexhaustive list of where I have promoted my blog.

E-zine articles I wrote about 10 to 15 articles which brought me some natural organic traffic.

My posts go out on twitter once they are posted to my blog if you would like to follow me on twitter then here is my profile address http://twitter.com/markcoruk, I also have a presence on Face Book and have posted my posts on their also feel free to add me as a friend

I am part of a service called friend feed which amalgamates all types of social media services like you tube, Flickr and many others if you would like to become a friend of mine on friend feed then please feel free to do so my blog is also part of my blog log and blog catalog which are two of the biggest social media blogging directories.

I think in part this is probably one of the reasons for my blog success because my content is being syndicated all over the place and this builds up relevance on the search engines. There are other things I have done as well like setting up blogs with content on on places like blogger etc and pointing the content to my blog this all creates relevance as well in the search engines and improves overall ranking.

So on that note I would just like to say to all the people who read my blog on a regular basis no matter how few or how many there are. I would like to say thank you so much for supporting me in what I believe to be to be a very worthwhile cause in helping people to become healthier and keep their weight under control.

So Merry Christmas and have a great New Year I look forward to seeing you in 2009 all the best.

Wanted To Share This

Hello everybody hope you’re well I had a nice surprise the other day yesterday infact, had a quick look at my RSS feed stats and have now reached 88 subscribers this to me is great news, I was so moved the other day when I saw it. So to me it marks another notch on moving forward. I am hoping over time that it will grow and grow, and more people find my blog and enjoy what they read and become inspired to become healthier and lose weight.

I have decided now that it I am here for the long haul, so won’t going anywhere soon. If you know of anyone who would benefit from reading my blog please by all means do tell them, word of mouth is probably the best form of advertising. All I want to achieve here is have a quality resource for people to enjoy for many years to come. I do hope this is what I have achieved already, and so glad that so many people enjoy coming here and enjoy what they see.

Thanks Mark.

Moving Servers

Computers and Tape Reels Old

Hi just to let you know that the blog has been having a lot Internal Server Errors which means that, its been using to many resources, so I have had to upgrade my hosting package to accommodate for this, hopefully the transfer should be smooth. But lets just see how things go, when the transfer is done I am hoping that it will stop the problems.

Thanks Mark.

New Blog Launched

images.websnapr.comI am very pleased and excited to put forward my new blog which was launched yesterday, I was going to wait a bit longer but being as I had quite a few posts on it the time seemed right, so yesterday I submitted it to a few social bookmarking sites etc.

Here is the URL for my new site http://www.a-newbeginning.co.uk it’s about my life, life in general and anything else I can think of to blog about, which is related to life as a whole.

If you have time please surf over and have a look because any feedback would be greatly appreciated, so far I am quite happy with what is on their so far, for quite a while I was in two minds as to whether or not to start it but am glad I have now because it will be interesting to see how it grows over time which is what I am hoping for and if it’s anywhere near as successful as this blog is now then I will be well pleased.

It’s always a gamble starting a new online venture but somehow I quite enjoy it now setting up sites and seeing how well they do. As is normally the case I am going for quality rather than quantity again to me this seems a better balance for a way of writing.

Actually I can’t think of a better time to launch this new blog because it was the first year anniversary of this one being on WordPress, that’s just something that just crossed my mind thinking about it while composing this post.

My First Year Anniversary

cakeWell today my blog is celebrating its first birthday on WordPress, it’s exactly one year ago today that I first set up this domain and blog on this address using independent hosting, and using WordPress as the blogging platform. And what a year it’s been despite the fact there were some low’s to start off with when I first started off, on WordPress mainly because I didn’t really know what I was doing at first.

And also due to the fact that I was in away starting from scratch although I was on blogger previously, I was literally starting from zero, so really one year ago I read in have a clue about how things would work out or where I would end up.

But it has turned out better than I have ever expected, I am still here, I am still blogging and I have to say I am glad I stuck it out even along the bumpy roads that have come along every once in a while, at one time earlier on this year my traffic levels seem to be quite low and I was quite concerned that something was really wrong, but really there was nothing to worry about because within a few weeks my traffic levels returned to normal.

This year has been the best so far as far as my blogging is concerned, things started to turn around I would say at the end of January, looking back over my stats over the year this is when things started to turn around, I started posting more posts and also did one or two tweaks on the blog.

Which seemed to make a huge difference, I also started to put into practice what I had learned from the blogging course I was doing namely Blog Mastermind, then about March time I think it was my posts started to appear on Reuters which bought me even more exposure, I have been a member of blog catalog, and my blog log for quite some time now, and started to join various neighbourhoods within those two blogging networks which are very big indeed.

I also make sure that I was getting exposure by leaving comments on a authoritative blog every so often, I think the combination of this and doing many other marketing activities, has really paid off I also concentrated on SEO for my blog which consisted of directly submissions.

But also this year there has been a lot of natural organic growth, I am finding now even more that a lot of people who are within the same area as may as far as blogging is concerned are finding me and also syndicating my content.

My blog is starting to pop up all over the place on the Internet which is a really good thing, sometimes when I am looking at my stats to see where people come from is quite amazing where they do come from, it does seem to pop up in the most strangest of places.

Sometimes there is no actual path as to where the visitor has come from so I’m assuming that people must be passing my site around like a bookmark, because also I noticed that some of the referrals are coming from e-mails, and people saving their pages to their hard drive perhaps somebody saves the page off line and then sends it to another person and so on.

This in itself all creates a natural organic growth which the search engines do like and also it gets me lots of free exposure, I haven’t had to spend any money whatsoever advertising my blog at all the only investment I have had to make is time.

When I initially set up this blog on WordPress one year ago I suppose you could say I had quite a. I don’t know what is going to happen, attitude as far as things are concerned and didn’t think too much about where I would be this time this year, or even if I would be still here, although I must say that I didn’t really think that at the time.

All in all though I have really been quite pleasantly surprised at how things have progressed, it may seem quite strange saying this but I never expected it to grow as much as it has.

When I used to think about seeing other people doing well with their blogs and wondered if I would be ever able to be as good or do as well as them, when I was on blogger initially first starting off I seem to be struggling all the time to get anywhere as far as traffic and anything else was concerned for that matter.

But looking back on that experience, I can actually see that the platform that I was on was very limiting, WordPress just changes the whole ballgame as a whole when it comes to blogging.

You have far more power at your hands than you ever could imagine I used to hear people talking about it all the time and raving about how good it is, but I must say I don’t think I really took much notice, and probably thought it was something I never would be using myself.

Over all as far as things go with my blog it does seem to be gaining a lot of traction over the Internet, I am getting more comments now than I used to, more people are subscribing to the RSS feed, and the e-mail service which is provided also.

So in conclusion one year on I can honesty say that is the probably, the best thing I’ve ever done for a very long time. Starting this blog has made me realise that I can stay at things when needed, and I would also say that it has made me grow as a person and made me become more confident as well. I never actually realised it before but I find writing now quite therapeutic.

So much so that I am now in the process of starting another blog I still need to add some more content to it and get the RSS feed setup and so forth, but it won’t be too long now before I will launch it. Funnily enough when I first started to think about this blog I ummmed and arrrred about it for ages but then just decided to get it up and see what happens with it.

That particular blog is about the way my life is going and life as a whole really and how I have got to where I am now, as I get nearer to where I want it I will announce on this blog when I am ready to launch it.

That’s all I want to say really does want to say thank you for everybody who take’s the time to leave comments, about my blog and posts, all the people who read my blog how many there are of you I don’t really know sometimes it is hard to judge because a lot of people do lurk and don’t say anything.

So one year on to this very day all I can say it’s been a very learning, exhilarating, and exciting experience for me as a whole I really am hoping now that blogging will open a lot of doors for me and hopefully get me some kind of recognition which I would truly love.

And on a ending note if there is anybody who is interested in any kind of sponsorship deals then please do get in contact with me as I would be very interested to talk business.

Or also if you have any questions about blogging in general or anything really doesn’t matter just drop me a line.

Blog News

Hi all things with the blog are going great, I am really amazed at how well things are going with it my RSS feed readers peaked to about 70 at one stage, I am now ranking in Google for weight loss on page 2 at the present, also ranking well for the term weight loss blog and move up and down slightly for the term lose weight between page 1 and 2 position 10 and 11.

And this is something I don’t check all that often but my page rank now is a 4 yipeee !!!! so all in all things are heading in the right direction, also I am getting a low of natural link growth from other bloggers people asking me to join there health communities, traffic is stable although it has slowed a bit with the warm weather.

So all this offsets the technical problems I have been experiencing of recent have a great day.

P.S wrote this on my laptop in the garden isn’t technology great.
