Do Diets Work or Not

This is something of a hot topic or can be sometimes in the weight loss industry, the thing is for a long time now there has been so many new fad diets it’s unbelievable.

Atkins diet this diet that the other diet, but in the true big picture of things it would seem that they don’t always work.

Why is that you may ask well if you look at the difference between fat people and thin people and say for instance, and took down notes of what a thin person ate you might be quite surprised at the results that you found.

Thin people can and do eat the foods that overweight people do but it’s probably more to do with eating habits as in the way your mind is programmed as regards eating food. And most of this goes on in the background you don’t even have to think about it.

Associations are being built in your mind all the time a famous Russian scientist named Pavlov, did some experiments with dogs and the results were very interesting,  this is what was found when they gave the dogs some food they rang a bell at the same so time so the dog’s mind associated the ringing of a bell, with food so when there was no food and they rang the bell the dog salivated.

So if you think about this and your own eating habits notice anything could it be that sometimes you sitting down watching television and at one time or another, you may have had a pizza so the pizza habit is born.

Or what about chocolate you may eat that when you’re feeling a bit down or low the problem with food is it gives your mind a reward feeling when you eat it this is remembered by your brain so it stands to reason that if any food you particularly liked a lot, then there could be strong associations in your mind to eat that food, that made you feel so good.

You may not even realise you have some subconscious habits think about your day as a whole do you always get out of the same side of your bed, do you come down and have your breakfast straight away or opening your curtains or any other tasks that you might do when you get up.

Now if you compare these to when you eat food you might find out that you will eat at certain times at certain places and somewhere in your mind there will be a subconscious trigger which will do this the trick is to find out what it is and then put something in place of it so instead of eating food you could go for a walk, or do something other than eat food this will hopefully break the habit pattern that you have formed over time, what you could also do is take a note of when you eat food and when and see if there is a pattern most eating habits are formed without you even realising it.

So perhaps it’s time to take control of the food monster and getting him under control.
