This is a topic that really winds me up.

Whatever happened to the values of hard work, determination and persistence?

Nothing in life that is worth achieving is easy. This culture of instant gratification, reliance on the state has got to change. I don’t know what it’s like in the US, but over here in the UK we’ve a ‘nanny state’ where you can’t do anything, too many people rely on being told what to do.

This ‘diet pill’, quick fix culture is just another manifestation of this syndrome.

If you need to lose weight, do as Mark says, eat the right foods and exercise – couldn’t be simpler.

Oh man, you hit the nail on the head! With any pills like the ones you talk about, whether they’re new or “tried and true” (???), tread lightly! The way these things are sold is to press hard on the emotional hot buttons. So many people want the “magic pill” that will allow them to “instantly” shed pounds. It’s sad: They end up in many cases hurting themselves.

People need to be very objective, non-emotional, do their research, and talk to their doctor extensively before trying any of these pills.

For me, I’m leary of them all, and diets in general: Moderation and time are the rules I live by. Eat everything in moderation, watch your intake, and exercise regularly. And give it TIME to work! Nothing is instant.
