How to Help with Climate Change and Your Health-Blog Action Day
This is my post for Blog Action Day 2009, this is a global thing that bloggers do all over the world in order to make people more aware of climate change and other such matters.
So here are some things that you can do to help preserve the environment, and change your health habits at the same time. Food processing and transportation can be responsible for many CO2 emissions but we do need to eat obviously.
So if you are able to why not have a change and either buy your food from a local farm shop if there is one near you, or ask somebody if they have an allotment and ask if you can buy some of their food. People do say that food that you grow yourself does taste better and there is a certain satisfaction about growing your own food.
By a greenhouse if you don’t already have one buy a greenhouse for your back garden, and grow some vegetables in there tomatoes are great for growing in a greenhouse. If you have a local shop that sells fresh food try and support them by buying your food from there instead of going to your supermarket.
If however you don’t have much choice but to use a supermarket try leaving the car at home and walking with your shopping instead. It doesn’t really matter if you don’t have the same amount of food if you went in your car at least you will cut down on CO2 emissions and get some exercise as well so there will be two benefits.
If you go to work in a car and your workplace isn’t that far get a bicycle, riding a bicycle is really good exercise you will probably feel better because you are out in the open rather than being in a metal box on four wheels, this might not be appropriate for everybody in winter.
But not every single day in winter is always that cold, so if you can manage it get a bike and do your bit for the environment if you can.
Try to veer towards eating as much fresh food as is possible, as food processing does count towards CO2 emissions as does a does the transportation of the food around various countries.
Do your workout outside on a nearby park it may be something that you have not tried before, and you will be communing with nature rather than being in a gym. It might make it that much more enjoyable. There are many other things that you could be doing but this is just a few to wet your appetite.
