Those are really good tips.

Eating spicy foods is another tip. Studies show that eating foods containing ingredients like black pepper, ginger, and chili peppers can boost your metabolism by as much as 8 percent for several hours after you eat them!

Thanks for these practical metabolism boosting suggestions. Suggest you add to this, the inclusion of a range of protein rich foods (lean meat as well as the fish you suggest) as these foods require more energy to break down. The fruit and veggies on your list provide the ‘good’ carbohydrates we need to improve our metabolism as these don’t need high insulin spikes to be digested and don’t promote the storage of fat.

Another way you can speed up metabolism is if you have the occasional refeed. A refeed is where you increase your starchy carbs for 12 - 24 hours so as to cause a hormonal change which benefits the dieting process. If used in moderation, it can be an easy way to kick the system back into weightloss, assuming you're sub 25% body fat.

Great blog! Love your post on jump starting your metabolism. One thing that also helps me with getting over a hurdle is to juice using 3/4 veggies and 1/4 fruit.

The chemical in green tea that helps with weight loss is catechin polyphenols. They are powerful antioxidants that can increase metabolism and help lower cholesterol. Yes about 5 cups a day sounds right. I drink 1 cup a day just for it's health benefits although I don't particularly enjoy the taste!

Thanks for your great post. I would like to chime in and say that sometimes, our bodies need a little push from within to begin working properly again, too. Acupuncture & Chinese herbs can help to increase metabolism, too. Along with reducing cravings and strengthening the digestive functions (through bringing our energetic systems back into balance) for anyone looking to lose weight. If the "inside" is working better, then everyone's hard efforts can truly pay off. Thanks, again for your post!

Drinking ice cold water is another trick. Your body has to warm up the water to body temp before it digests it.

Really good write up! I need this in a major way. My metabolism crawls like an inchworm. I am not overweight but all the women in my family have been. I would be if I were not very consciously aware of my food choices. Once you understand metabolics within the body a little better, it helps to decode some of the mystery to weight loss and gain a bit.
Thanks again!

This article has gave me some new ideas to try. I do try to run a little with my walking. I have to be careful with this because my body is mechanically incorrect and I have problems with the tendons on my shins. I need to do some more resistance training. I don't eat trans fats. I didn't know that about organic fruits and vegetables. I am going to try the exercise in two parts. I think that will help me not to feel so exhausted too.
