I don’t know about you, but I am a big fan of eating tomatoes, and have been for quite some time now, and after coming across a recent piece of research, I’m glad that I do like to eat them.
Because according to a study conducted at the University of Adelaide, researchers have found that tomatoes aid in the prevention of cardiovascular disease.
Apparently, they help to lower your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, which is great news, especially if you are a big tomato fan.
A paper published by somebody called Dr. Karin Ried, found that a substance called lycopene, which is an antioxidant present in tomatoes, as well as other foods are very beneficial to your overall health.
The researchers put together a study to found out exactly what happened this was a collective of a lot of other studies, of which there were 14 over a period of 55 years. All you need to do is have a minimum of 25 milligrams of lycopene in your diet.
And this will be enough to reduce your cholesterol levels by 10 percent, which is a reasonable amount when you consider what you have to do in order to achieve that, all you have to do is make sure that your tomatoes are cooked you could cook them in vegetable oil, olive oil and grill them.
You can also buy lycopene in capsules or tablets form I should imagine you would probably be looking at a health food shop. In order to buy some.. One of the researchers said that they didn’t know if there would be any additional benefits to increasing the amount that you eat.
All in all another piece of interesting research, it’s useful to know which foods give the most bang for their buck as it were. It’s nice to know that something I like eating does have significant health benefits.
