Apple released its first touch screen device in 2007 and now offers thousands of apps to download onto the iPod, iPhone and iPad. As these devices have become more interactive and more widely used, there has been a boom in applications that help improve personal health.
Whether you are counting calories or interested in a personalized workout, there are many apps to choose from. Here is a list of the top 5 fitness applications to help you move towards a healthier life.
RunKeeper (GPS Trainer) Keeping track of how much you run doesn’t have to be a drag. With the application Run Keeper, you can record time and distance for your run. Run Keeper also has features like coaching options to help you through a tough workout and a GPS input mode to help record your workouts. This application is one the best health apps around because it allows you to customize your distance workouts to your ability and helps you set goals for yourself.
Fundicate (Diet and Meal Tips) Fundicate is an application on your apple device to learn more about the nutrition of foods you eat. Fundicate uses profiles on a database of over 200,000 different products to give you nutrition labels and health ratings. This application’s features include: -Barcode Profiler (camera required): the easiest way to get nutrition information on a product by just scanning the barcode. -Product Profiles: whether you are looking up broccoli or a soft drink, Fundicate has a profile on over 200,000 food products. Each profile provides a health rating, an alternative suggestion option, a way to compare two products, and a consumer forum to post comments. -Food Highlights: product profiles provide details about nutrition and food facts.
Nike Training Club (Personalized Workout Guide)
Choosing workouts to match your goals is a key feature in the mobile application Nike Training Club. If you want to “Get Lean”, ”Get Toned”, ”Get Strong”, or Get Focused”, Nike Training club has specialized workouts for specific muscle groups of the body. Depending on what area is chosen, this application provides a series of different exercises with instruction to help you workout in a more efficient manner.
iTriage ITriage is a mobile app that presents health information in 7 different categories: -Symptoms: iTriage uses body areas and certain symptoms to help identify health issues an individual might have to determine what is needed to stay healthy. -Doctors: Using a personalized location by state, city or zip code, iTriage finds medical providers by category and distance to help you look for contact info for health professionals.
Facilities: health facilities in different categories depending on what type of healthcare is needed. -Diseases: descriptions and treatment information on any form of health issue. -Medications: info on medications and their uses, side effects, usage instructions and brand names. -Procedures: descriptions, costs, complications and specialists for certain medical procedures. -Hotlines: a list of emergency contacts from poison control to domestic abuse and even advice lines.
With the mobile application Calorie Count, you can personalize a calorie counting profile specific to your own body. While calculating body mass index and the amount of calories you burn per day, Calorie Count uses graphs and scales to help you manage calorie intake.
You can pick a workout and find out how many calories you burned with an easy to use time scale. You can also pick food products from a huge database to figure how many calories you consumed and if that food is healthy for you. Many calorie counters have these features but Calorie Count comes out on top because it provides a daily analysis of how you did during that day, while also providing data on weight changes over periods of time.
